Latest Updates to Game Pass Tiers Earlier this week, Xbox revealed that its top-tier plan will now cost $29.99 per month, a controversial move among members. The update comes with two renamed options—Premium and Essential—which modify the available features and do not include day-one game releases. This shift followed another adjustment in last year, which phased out Xbox Game Pass for Console in favor of Standard and Core levels. Back then, Xbox permitted current Console subscribers to keep their membership at the same monthly rate of $10.99 with all perks, such as access to day-one releases. Subscribers who are currently enrolled in the Console plan and have recurring billing enabled can continue their subscription,” an Xbox spokesperson explained. “If users turn off recurring payments, or their membership expires, they will need to select between Essential, Premium, Ultimate or PC Game Pass plans when rejoining.” Perks and Pricing Remain Unchanged The perks and pricing of the Console plan will remain the same, as confirmed by Xbox: “New releases are accessible with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscriptions, as well as for subscribers who still have an current Game Pass for Console. Gamers who are currently subscribed to Xbox Game Pass for Console and have recurring billing enabled can continue their membership at $10.99 per month.” When asked, a company representative did not confirm how long grandfathered Console plans will stay available for existing members. How to Check If You Are On a Legacy Subscription Go to the Game Pass website and log in with your Xbox account. Select your username in the top right corner of the page once logged in. Click on “My Microsoft Account.” If you see “Console subscription” shown as an current plan, you can still access new releases for $10.99 monthly as long as automatic billing are enabled. Make sure to check if you still have this golden ticket before ending your membership, as you won’t be able to get back into it once you opt out.
