A senior officer who rushed to the assistance of a fellow officer that got attacked by a knife attacker received the Royal Recognition for Courage.

Sgt Tim Ansell fought with 27-yr-old Jacob Brown following he held a knife to the neck of his fellow officer Sergeant Marc Foster.

Brown began the violence as the law enforcement personnel and their third officer, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a driver after a road collision in the area in summer 2023.

Brown stabbed and slashed the two Sergeant Ansell and Sergeant Foster prior to PC Wolstencroft incapacitated him with a stun gun.

"Officer knifed," the officer stated over his communication device.

Bodyworn and dashcam recording released by the police department showed Brown, wearing in dark clothing with a hood covering head, run up to Sergeant Foster from the rear with a knife outstretched.

He struck the policeman who lost balance and went down to the street, before Sgt Ansell stepped in and attempted to subdue him to the floor although being repeatedly struck with the knife.

Police Constable Wolstencroft pulled his stun gun and sought a open target, ending the struggle to an conclusion.

Sergeant Ansell was heard stating: "Can I get something on my neck here, I'm bleeding in the neck."

Sgt Ansell sustained two deep cuts to his neck and further injuries to his arms and torso, whereas Sgt Foster experienced knife wounds.

The department said Sgt Foster utilized his palms to stop his partner's bleeding prior to emergency responders arrived.

The latest recognition follows after the three officers were granted organizational Courage Honors in October 2023 and the police federation award from the local union branch in spring 2024.

They were also awarded a North West Courage Honor in mid-2024.

"The actions of each policeman in the end rescued one another and resulted in no bystanders experienced any harm."

Brown was given to an psychiatric detention in April 2024, as stated by authorities.
